If the Tail Wags

If The Tail Wags The Dog, Then The Tongue Wags Man

If the Tail Wags the Dog, Then the Tongue Wags Man

Good day to each of you reading this column, as my thoughts turn to our USA leaders as those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones and yet they do.

“A slip of the foot you may soon recover, but a slip of the tongue you may never get over.”

Benjamin Franklin

Before we tackle the who and the situations that they have encountered concerning the tongue, let’s see what the Bible says on the tongue.

James 3:8 NIV

8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

Ephesians 4:29 NIV

29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

James 3:1-8 NIV

Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2 We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.

3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

Psalm 141:3 NIV

Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.

Psalm 34:13 NIV

Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies.

Proverbs 13:3 NIV

Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.

Matthew 12:36-37 NIV

But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

James 3:9 NIV

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.

Proverbs 6:16-19 NIV

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him:

17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,

18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil,

19 a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

James 1:19 NIV

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

Leviticus 19:16 NIV

“‘Do not go about spreading slander among your people.

“‘Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life. I am the Lord.

Matthew 12:37 NIV

37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

James 3:1 NIV

Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.

Proverbs 20:19 NIV

A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much.

All so many times each of us has said things that we wish that we could take back, whether it be with the tongue, in writing, via e-mail or the way our face expresses certain expressions.

God knew what we go thru and has given wise advice as to wait before we speak and when not to put our mouth into gear before we thought.

Our consequences and actions are proof of the outcome whether good or bad.

Here, in the USA we hold our politicians in the same regard as leaders and the Bible speaks about those who slander, condemn, curse and judge thinking that the skeletons in their closet will never be exposed.

The tongue of our leaders has taken center stage for our previous President Donald Trump has experienced this problem from both the present President Joe Biden and President Trump’s vice president Mike Pence.

Let me be clear, I am not hear to judge but to make reference to men who are in the highest of office and have men who in James 3:9 NIV  say With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.

Joe Biden’s Classified Documents Remarks Come Back to Haunt Him

In September, Biden was asked by CBS’ Scott Pelley how he felt when he saw the DoJ images of the top secret documents on the floor of Trump’s Florida home, to which the president replied: “How that could possibly happen, how anyone could be that irresponsible.”

Biden added: “And I thought what data was in there that may compromise sources and methods. By that, I mean, names of people who helped or et cetera. And it’s just totally irresponsible.”

Mike Pence Says He Did Not Take Classified Documents When He Left Office

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Former Vice President Mike Pence said Friday that he didn’t take any classified information with him when he left office.

The disclosure — which would typically be unremarkable for a former vice president — is notable given that FBI agents seized classified and top secret information from his former boss’s Florida estate on Aug. 8 while investigating potential violations of three different federal laws. Former President Donald Trump has claimed that the documents seized by agents were “all declassified.”

Pence, asked directly if he had retained any classified information upon leaving office, told The Associated Press in an interview, “No, not to my knowledge.”

Classified Documents At Pence’s Home, Too, His Lawyer Says

NEW YORK (AP) — Documents with classified markings were discovered in former Vice President Mike Pence ‘s Indiana residence last week, his lawyer says, the latest in a string of recoveries of papers meant to be treated with utmost sensitivity from the homes of current and former top U.S. officials.

We wonder why our country is so divided? We wonder who does and who does not tell the truth? We wonder why our leaders would rather “tell a little lie” Instead of the truth?

Have we become like sheep who have gone astray and are looking for our master? Are the American people looking for a “savior” or someone who will cure our ills?

This lesson on the tongue is so very important since our next national election will be in less than two years or 24 months.

The word of God reminds us in Proverbs 20:19 NIV

A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid a man who talks too much.

A wise man once said, let your talk be the talk and your walk be the walk.

A wise man also said, action speaks louder than words.

So well spoken in this day for we have leaders who talk the talk and that’s what they do so they can get voted in for another term.

Let us place our hope and faith into God as our leader so that He will direct our paths and not in those, who in Matthew 12:36-37 NIV

But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Benjamin Franklin, a wise statesman, reminded each of us that “A slip of the foot you may soon recover, but a slip of the tongue you may never get over.”

Well said—–

When finishing this lesson and reading this to my wife, she made the statement that this may be a form of gossiping—my intention was not of gossip but to show that our leaders lie and that I find hard to believe what will come out of their mouth.

In closing, Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. John 14:1 (KJV).
