The USA Mid-Term Elections – Part 1
Good day to you reading this column on the United States elections that are coming very shortly (Tuesday, November 8).
If one were to read the internet, listen to television, or listen to the airwaves, we may take the opinion that your vote does not count and that the jury machines are rigged. Am I correct?
Polls are out suggesting what the top issues are, so I have compiled my top five issues:
- The economy (including jobs, stock market, recession)
- Inflation or the cost of living (food costs, gas costs, housing costs)
- Crime
- Abortion
- Immigration and Border Security
Would you agree, in no particular order that these are the looming issues that voters are weighing and that politicians are promising to fix.
Like sands in an hourglass, are we very near to the return of Jesus? Are we seeing Biblical history unfolding before our eyes?
This country that I live in called the United States of America has been blessed so greatly by God and yet we placed God at the back end of the bus.
Yes, we are going to the polls to vote in the next few days and we are facing the above top issues in hopes of voting for men or women who will address these issues and fix the issues to make our lives better.
Will those, who we put in office, do as they say or will they dupe us in hopes of running again and again and again? Will they say as they do and do as they say?
Truthfully, can they fix the economy, deflate inflation, lower gas prices and food prices and lower interest rates so people can again afford homes?
Can we control crime to lower murders, rapes, stealing and make our cities safe again?
Will these politicians overturn Roe vs wade or will they stand firm on pro-life issues and against abortion?
Finally, how can these people we have in office put a stop to those who come across the border illegally? What about those who are here illegally and how will our politicians deal with them?
And, by the way, our politicians say “God Bless America” at the end of their speeches, so how can God Bless America when America has turned her back on God?
Too many of our politicians use empty words such as God Bless America knowing hey trying to get the Christian vote.
Before we get into the five issues, I ask that you read the following article: If I Were The Devil. It was written and popularized by national radio commentator and syndicated columnist, Paul Harvey.
If I Were The Devil

If I were the devil … I would gain control of the most powerful nation in the world;
I would delude their minds into thinking that they had come from man’s effort, instead of God’s blessings;
I would promote an attitude of loving things and using people, instead of the other way around;
I would dupe entire states into relying on gambling for their state revenue;
I would convince people that character is not an issue when it comes to leadership;
I would make it legal to take the life of unborn babies;
I would make it socially acceptable to take one’s own life, and invent machines to make it convenient;
I would cheapen human life as much as possible so that the life of animals are valued more than human beings;
I would take God out of the schools, where even the mention of His name was grounds for a lawsuit;
I would come up with drugs that sedate the mind and target the young, and I would get sports heroes to advertise them;
I would get control of the media, so that every night I could pollute the mind of every family member for my agenda;
I would attack the family, the backbone of any nation.
I would make divorce acceptable and easy, even fashionable. If the family crumbles, so does the nation;
I would compel people to express their most depraved fantasies on canvas and movie screens, and I would call it art;
I would convince the world that people are born homosexuals, and that their lifestyles should be accepted and marveled;
I would convince the people that right and wrong are determined by a few who call themselves authorities and refer to their agenda as politically correct;
I would persuade people that the church is irrelevant and out of date, and the Bible is for the naive;
I would dull the minds of Christians, and make them believe that prayer is not important, and that faithfulness and obedience are optional;
I guess I would leave things pretty much the way they are.
Paul Harvey
The above article was written in the 1960’s and is point on in America today.
Politically correct, no, but spot on in today’s society and we want God to bless America. We truly need a Paul Harvey!
We have commentators on the airwaves saying that America is at its crossroads and we are seeing a great divide amongst various races.
Commentators have become very good at dividing Americans if they don’t agree with the guest thoughts or the guest has an opposing view on the topics of today.
America has become the rich and the poor whereas it was known in decades past as having three classes which were the rich, the middle class and the poor.
Just fifty years ago, there was no inflation, high food and gas prices, no inflation, stable work places, men went to work and women raised the children, dad and mom had long marriges and divorces were not commonplace.
People went to church, prayed privately and openly, the alternate lifestyle was private and not openly flaunted, doors were not locked after dark and those who committed crimes were sent to prison to work, had limited privileges and were treated as one who did the crime must do the time.
The death penalty was used for those who took another person’s life and abortion was not an issue in America. Those who came to America from another country were expected to learn the English language, pay their taxes and work for a living.
You may agree or disagree with the above statements, but to those of you who grew up back then, you must say that times were simpler, children were safer when going to school, money was not the root of all evil, men made a very good living off 15,000 yearly.
Jobs were careers, a week’s groceries were around 25.00, gas tanks were filled for two weeks, new cars went for under 3,000 and houses under 25,000.
No credit cards, just cash or check and savings accounts that actually earned interest. No mass suicides, mass school shootings, mall shootings.
Yes, we had crime, but the prisoner once convicted was not coddled, he or she were given “creature comforts” for the time they were in and had to work from sun up to sundown.
The murderers on death row knew they were going to die whether by the electric chair, shooting squad or injection. They knew the death penalty was just that, the death penalty.
Policemen were treated with respect and were friends of the community they served. Arrests were made knowing the criminal would not be out that night and that the criminal would not commit the same crime over and over again only to be let that night.
As for immigration, we held to the thoughts of Teddy Roosevelt:
Theodore Roosevelt’s ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907
Courtesy of Snopes
“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American … There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag … We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language … and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”
Theodore Roosevelt, 1907
Those were the days when the family was the backbone, churches were filled, the Bible was read, neighbors were helping neighbors, and the middle class was growing not diminishing.
Do any politicians come to mind?
Vote, yes and pray for our country and those who rule over us—this election may be an American turning point depending on the party that you are voting for, so vote, but vote for those who want to do the will of the people.
So here’s a thought, before we can fix the five issues above, we as a people must do the following biblically: 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
We are blessed by living in this great country called America and our problems would be solved if and only if we humble ourselves, pray and seek God’s face and turn from our sinful ways.
In return, God would open his storehouse of blessings and fill our nation.
As I close, please take the time to read the Bible daily—God will bless you and will open your mind o draw closer to him in these times of trouble.
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. John 14:1 (KJV).
