ONE

One

Good day to each of you reading this column as I do hope this day brings you joy and happiness.
It’s time for some humor and I think I found a few that each of you will enjoy:

One day, a police officer pulls a car over and sees the backseat is full of penguins. The officer tells the driver, “You can’t be doing this, you need to take these penguins to the zoo!”
The next day, the police officer pulls the same car over again, and says, “Hey! I told you to take these penguins to the zoo!” The driver says, “I did, and today I’m taking them to the movies!”

A guy goes to the eye doctor.
He says, “I have trouble seeing things at a distance.”
The doc takes him over to the window, points up to the sky, and says, “What do you see up there?”
The guy says, “The sun.”
Doc says, “That’s right. So, exactly HOW far do you need to see, dude?”

What do you get when 9 ants move in with his buddy? Tenants.

What did the sushi say to the bee? Wasabeeee!

And the finish:

A man asks a librarian, “Do you have any books about turtles?”
The librarian says, “Hardback?”
The man says, “Yeah, with the little heads.

I do hope these jokes brighten your day and put a great big smile on your face—Share a joke or two and watch what happens!

Do you remember the song, One by Three Dog Night back in the 60’s or 70’s?

Here are the first two verses of the song One written by Harry Nilsson:

Verse 1
One is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do
Two can be as bad as one
It’s the loneliest number since the number one

Verse 2
No is the saddest experience you’ll ever know
Yes, it’s the saddest experience you’ll ever know
‘Cause one is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do
One is the loneliest number, whoa-oh, worse than two

Songs are a wonderful way to express your feelings for the Psalmist said to make a joyful noise unto the Lord.

I like going to karaoke to listen to other folks to express their singing abilities with some showing that they can sing and some that should have stayed in their seats to just listen.

But who am I to judge, I have tried this karaoke sing along a time or two and have never been booed off the stage or “given the hook” so, I can say that I did it.

Let’s focus on the number “One” for it took one to make an example for all the world to see the magnitude of just “one” to change the full scope of history.

I have been reading from Smith & Goodspeed on The Wisdom of Sirach in the Apocrypha and here some snippets on “ONE”

Sirach 43:33 & 44:1 & 2—For the Lord has made all things, And he has given wisdom to the godly.

Let us now praise distinguished men, our forefathers before us.

They are a great glory to the Lord who created them; They have shown his majesty from of old. Sirach 44: 16- 23

Enoch

16 Enoch pleased the Lord, and was taken up;
    he was an example of repentance to all generations.

Noah

17 Noah was found perfect and righteous;
    in the time of wrath he was taken in exchange;
therefore a remnant was left to the earth
    when the flood came.
18 Everlasting covenants were made with him
    that all flesh should not be blotted out by a flood.

Abraham

19 Abraham was the great father of a multitude of nations,
    and no one has been found like him in glory;
20 he kept the law of the Most High,
    and was taken into covenant with him;
he established the covenant in his flesh,
    and when he was tested he was found faithful.
21 Therefore the Lord assured him by an oath
    that the nations would be blessed through his posterity;
that he would multiply him like the dust of the earth,
    and exalt his posterity like the stars,
and cause them to inherit from sea to sea
    and from the River to the ends of the earth.

Isaac and Jacob

22 To Isaac also he gave the same assurance
    for the sake of Abraham his father.

23 The blessing of all men and the covenant
    he made to rest upon the head of Jacob;
he acknowledged him with his blessings,
    and gave him his inheritance;

he determined his portions,
    and distributed them among twelve tribes.

Aaron

He exalted Aaron, the brother of Moses,
    a holy man like him, of the tribe of Levi.
He made an everlasting covenant with him,
    and gave him the priesthood of the people.
He blessed him with splendid vestments,
    and put a glorious robe upon him.

Phinehas

23 Phin′ehas the son of Elea′zar is the third in glory,
    for he was zealous in the fear of the Lord,
and stood fast, when the people turned away,
    in the ready goodness of his soul,
    and made atonement for Israel.
24 Therefore a covenant of peace was established with him,
    that he should be leader of the sanctuary and of his people,
that he and his descendants should have
    the dignity of the priesthood for ever.
25 A covenant was also established with David,
    the son of Jesse, of the tribe of Judah:
the heritage of the king is from son to son only;
    so the heritage of Aaron is for his descendants.

Joshua and Caleb

46 Joshua the son of Nun was mighty in war,
    and was the successor of Moses in prophesying.
He became, in accordance with his name,
    a great savior of God’s elect,
to take vengeance on the enemies that rose against them,
    so that he might give Israel its inheritance.
How glorious he was when he lifted his hands
    and stretched out his sword against the cities!
Who before him ever stood so firm?
    For he waged the wars of the Lord.

And in the days of Moses he did a loyal deed,
    he and Caleb the son of Jephun′neh:
they withstood the congregation,

    restrained the people from sin,
    and stilled their wicked murmuring.
And these two alone were preserved
    out of six hundred thousand people on foot,
to bring them into their inheritance,
    into a land flowing with milk and honey.
And the Lord gave Caleb strength,
    which remained with him to old age,
so that he went up to the hill country,
    and his children obtained it for an inheritance;
10 so that all the sons of Israel might see
    that it is good to follow the Lord.

The Judges

11 The judges also, with their respective names,
    those whose hearts did not fall into idolatry
and who did not turn away from the Lord—
    may their memory be blessed!
12 May their bones revive from where they lie,
    and may the name of those who have been honored
    live again in their sons!

13 Samuel, beloved by his Lord,
    a prophet of the Lord, established the kingdom
    and anointed rulers over his people.
14 By the law of the Lord he judged the congregation,
    and the Lord watched over Jacob.

In closing, turn to the wisdom of Sirach for he says in Sirach 44: 1- 4:

Let us now praise distinguished men, our forefathers before us.

They are a great glory to the Lord who created them; They have shown his majesty from of old.

Men who exercised authority in their reigns, and were renowned for their might! They gave their counsel with understanding, and brought men tidings through their prophecy—

Leaders of the people in deliberation and understanding, men of learning for the people, wise in their words of instruction;

My thanks are given to the Bible Gateway for the use of the Bible Verses above.

One person can make a difference—think about it as God speaks to you and don’t do what Jonah did, but except the task and do it lovingly for God is with you, even until the end.

Under God’s direction, one can make a difference—Will you be the one?

May God Bless you and may you bless God in all that you say and do.
