Who Shall Rule Part 2

Who shall rule over us, America? (Part 2)

Good day to each of you reading this topic on the up-and-coming elections and the course of history.

Before we begin, let’s turn to some humor from South County Churches

28. They Died in the Service

One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Johnny staring up at the large plaque that hung in the foyer of the church. The seven-year-old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up and stood beside him. Gazing up at the plaque, he said quietly, “Good morning, son.”

“Good morning, Pastor,” replied the young man, not taking his eyes off the plaque. “Sir, what is this?” Johnny asked.

“Well, son, these are all the people who have died in the service,” replied the pastor. Soberly, they stood together staring up at the large plaque.

Little Johnny’s voice barely broke the silence when he asked quietly, “Which one, sir—the 10:30 AM or the 6:30 PM?”

32. Three Dads

Three boys are in the schoolyard bragging about their fathers.

The first boy says, “My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a poem, and they give him $50.”

The second boy says, “That’s nothing. My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a song, and they give him $100.”

The third boy says, “I got you both beat. My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a sermon, and it takes eight people with baskets to collect all the money!”

36. Memories

The minister decided to do something a little different one Sunday morning. He said, “Today, in church, I am going to say a single word and you are going to help me preach.”

“Whatever single word I say, I want you to sing whatever hymn comes to your mind.”

The pastor shouted out, “Cross.” Immediately, the congregation started singing in unison, “The Old Rugged Cross.”

The pastor hollered out, “Grace.” The congregation began to sing, “Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound.”

The pastor said, “Power.” The congregation sang, “There Is Power in the Blood.”

The pastor said, “Sex.” The congregation fell completely silent. Everyone was in shock. They all nervously began to look around at each other, afraid to say anything.

Then, all of a sudden, from way in the back of the church, a little eighty-seven-year-old grandmother stood up and began to sing, “Precious Memories.”

A wife invited some people to dinner. At the table, she turned to their six-year-old daughter and said, “Would you like to say the blessing?”

“I wouldn’t know what to say,” the girl replied.

“Just say what you hear Mommy say,” the wife answered.

The daughter bowed her head and said, “Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?”

And, 41. Visiting Pastor

The new pastor was visiting in the homes of his parishioners. At one house, it seemed obvious that someone was at home, but no answer came to his repeated knocks at the door.

He took out a card, wrote “Revelation 3, verse 20” on the back, and stuck it in the door.

When the offering was processed the following Sunday, he found that his card had been returned. Added to it was this cryptic message: “Genesis 3, verse 10.”

Reaching for his Bible to check out the citation, he broke up in gales of laughter. Revelation 3:20 begins, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.”

Genesis 3:10 reads, “I heard Your voice in the garden and I was afraid, for I was naked.”

There you have it, the jokes for the day and we have a good ones, I hope.

So, why vote if the outcome is known? Did you know that the Bible gives us insight on the type of leaders we need to put into office?

We, as Christians, are very aware that God is all and knows all outcomes before they place. With that said, we established the voting of individuals who will execute the will of the people.

Here is a wonderful example in the Old Testament where Moses is being bombarded by disputes from the Israelites. This is found in Exodus 18 so I will refer to various verses to make a few points.

Look at the following verses—Verse 14 (NIV)– 14 When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, “What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?”

The answer is found in verse 15 (NIV)– 15 Moses answered him, “Because the people come to me to seek God’s will.

Moses’ father-in-law saw what was happening as Moses was overloaded judging the complaints from the Israelite people. As you will see verse 17 that Moses’ father-in-law saw that what Moses was doing will only wear you out and impede you both mentally and physically. Verse 17 -18 (NIV) 17 Moses’ father-in-law replied, “What you are doing is not good. 18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.

Verses 19-20 gives each of us an insight of how Moses reacted to his father-in-law and the wisdom and discernment shown of both individuals. Verses 19-20 (NIV) 19 Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people’s representative before God and bring their disputes to him. 20 Teach them his decrees and instructions, and show them the way they are to live and how they are to behave.

If we are to translate into today’s world, we need men who are discerning and ask for God’s wisdom to make decisions. Instead of making self-decisions, why not go to God and pray for the answers needed. Where are the politicians who ask for discernment and direction from God? Wouldn’t this country be in a much better place if our country would follow the decrees and instructions from those who pray to God first.

Look at the end of verse 20 where it says to show them the way they are to live and how they are to behave. Wouldn’t you agree that we all too many politicians who “grandstand” their thoughts and waver from the facts? Basic fundamentals in living such as balancing your checkbook, not spending more than you have, staying out of debt, buying needs not wants, following God’s laws and commandments, utilizing common sense by helping your fellow man.

Do you not see where the word self has entered into those because of their place in authority? I thought when we voted in our elected officials that they were to be doing the will of the people. Like the drain of water, we have seen the ideas of the majority drain into the will of the minority and now we see in our society that evil is good and good is evil. Unfortunately, we have those in our elected offices who have been “bought” by lobbyists and those with money to do their will. Is this the way that Moses’ father-in-law intended when he said to show them the way they are to live and how they are to behave.

Here is the response from Moses’ father-in law is verses 21-22 (NIV) 21 But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. 22 Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you.

Again, the question to ask when voting is that is this a capable man who fears God, trustworthy and hates dishonest gain? We have all such information to find out the person who is running for office and this insight is so very valuable when making a choice.

I wish to insert Deuteronomy 17:15 at this time (NIV) 15 be sure to appoint over you a king the Lord your God chooses. He must be from among your fellow Israelites. Do not place a foreigner over you, one who is not an Israelite.

Fellow Christian, I go on record as saying we must and should have only fellow Christians serving in places of government and not people of other religions. Why? Because of the above verse and this is a Christian based country. We are God chosen race, plain and simple, and we are expected to uphold God’s commandments, statutes, judgments and laws.

Yet again, we have strayed from this and you look no further than the turmoil of New York City and the mayor who is a Muslim which is a false religion!

Harsh, no for he is a foreigner and belongs to a false religion! This man, I hope, turns from being a Muslim and converts to Christianity as well as those in the House of Representatives.

While the vast majority of the 100-member Senate identifies as Christian (including Protestants, Catholics, and Latter-day Saints), non-Christian faiths hold roughly 11% of the upper chamber’s seats

I hope this provides valuable insight on those we have placed in office. I will ask you to draw your own conclusions.

Verses 22 & 23 gives us the result (NIV) 22 Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you. 23 If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied.”

Deuteronomy 16:19 (NIV) 19 Do not pervert justice or show partiality. Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the innocent.

When you vote and this is a matter of conviction when voting for the person, I ask that you consider the following to see if your candidate measures up to the following:

According to the Bible, five essential qualities of a good leader are servant leadership, humility, integrity, wisdom, and courage

  • Servant Leadership: True biblical leadership focuses on serving others rather than exercising power or seeking status. Jesus modeled this by washing His disciples’ feet, teaching that greatness comes from lifting others up (Mark 10:45; John 13:14–15). (Mark 10:45) (NIV) 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

(John 13:14–15) (NIV) 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.

  • Humility: A godly leader recognizes their limitations and relies on God rather than self-importance (Proverbs 22:4). Instead of demanding credit, humble leaders elevate and empower the people they guide.

(Proverbs 22:4) (NIV) Humility is the fear of the Lord;
its wages are riches and honor and life.

  • Integrity: Integrity means living with honest character and ensuring your private life matches your public actions (Proverbs 22:4); Proverbs 21:3). People trust a leader whose word is reliable and whose motives are transparent

(Proverbs 21:3) (NIV) 3 To do what is right and just
is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

  • Wisdom: Biblical wisdom is practical and rooted in God’s guidance rather than worldly cleverness (James 1:5). A wise leader seeks discernment to make fair, faithful decisions for the community.

(James 1:5) (NIV) 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

  • Courage: Leaders frequently face opposition, pressure, or fear, requiring them to stand firm in their convictions (Joshua 1:9). Biblical courage relies on faith that God is present and in control through challenges

(Joshua 1:9) (NIV) 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Does your candidate provide servant leadership and to put the will of the people before himself? Is you candidate full of humility or pride? Is your candidate honest in both his character, his personal life and his public actions? Has your candidate made fair and faithful decisions and not just promises that he could not keep? Can your candidate face opposition, pressure and fear by not wobbling or caving in and have they demonstrated that they can stand firm in their convictions?

Finally, is your candidate a statesman or a politician? Will he work for you or will he sell out to big interest and lobbyists?

In this day and age, our leaders are tested and it is my hope that they are Christians who stand with God and why? Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go

With this encouragement, one can never go wrong for wherever you go the Lord will be with you—Hebrews 13:5 (NIV) 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,

“Never will I leave you;
    never will I forsake you.]
