Angels
Good day to each of you reading this column on angels, the real ones and not the ones have wings. No, I have never seen an angel, but I do believe they are made in God’s image and no they don’t have wings.
Are angels really God’s secret agents? What is their purpose? Do they watch over you and I and if so, how many are assigned? Are their good and bad angels?
Of course, before we begin about the topic, let’s have some humour https://godslittleacre.net/funnies/short_christian_jokes_1.html
- An elderly lady was well known for her faith and for her boldness and talking about it. She would stand on her front porch and shout, “Praise the Lord!”
Next door to her lived an atheist who would get so angry at her proclamations he would shout, “There ain’t no Lord!!”
Hard times set in on the elderly lady and she prayed for God to send her some assistance. She stood on her porch and shouted, “Praise the Lord!! God, I need FOOD!! I am having a hard time. Please, Lord, send me some groceries!!”
The next morning, the lady went out on her porch and saw a large bag of groceries and shouted, “Praise the Lord!!”
The neighbor jumped from behind a bush and said, “Ha Ha!! I told you there was no Lord. I bought those groceries. God didn’t.”
The lady started jumping up and down and clapping her hands and saying, “PRAISE THE LORD!!! He not only sent me groceries, but He made the devil pay for them!!” - A young woman teacher with obvious liberal tendencies explains to her class of small children that she is an atheist. She asks her class if they are atheists too. Not really knowing what atheism is, but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands explode into the air like fleshy fireworks. There is, however, one exception. A girl named Lucy has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different.
“Because I’m not an atheist.”
“Then,” asks the teacher, “What are you?”
“I’m a Christian.”
The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Lucy why she is a Christian.
“Well, I was brought up knowing and loving Jesus. My mom is a Christian, and my dad is a Christian, so I am a Christian.”
The teacher is now angry. “That’s no reason,” she says loudly. “What if your mom was a moron, and you dad was a moron. What would you be then?”
A pause, and a smile. “Then,” says Lucy, “I’d be an atheist!” - A doctor, a nurse, and the top executive of an HMO have died and are in line together at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter speaks with them and asks them what good they have done in their lives.
The doctor says, “I have devoted my life to the sick and needy and have had a part in caring for and healing thousands of people.”
St. Peter replies, “That’s great. Go ahead into heaven.”
“And what about you?” The nurse states, “I have supported the doctor and his patients my entire life as an adult, have taken time to explain things to patients, and have helped them lead healthy lives.”
“Wonderful. Please proceed in with the doctor.”
“And what about you?” The HMO executive says, “I was the president of a very large Health Maintenance Organization. I was responsible for the health care of millions of people all over the country.”
St. Peter says, “Oh, I see. Please go on in … but you can only stay two nights!
Happy? Great jokes and clean humor make each day a bit brighter—hope you enjoyed!
Before I begin, here in the USA we have frozen pay for primarily all government workers and why? Because we have elected men and women who can not play in the sandbox and millions of Americans who are suffering!
Who is the blame? You and I are for we put these morons in office who can’t make a decision and help those in need out! Is it that simple, yes—this is why we need term limits so we can rid of these morons and vote in people with common sense and who can balance a checkbook!
I for one would love to see everyone of them go and don’t let the door slam you from behind for we need people with common sense and not political ambitions and power hungry!
Folks, it is time to take that teabag out of the cupboard and drop into the river like our forefathers! We ought to be embarrassed by the mess that we are in and we are the only ones to blame.
Harsh, no so look in the mirror and wake up and get your head out of the sand—Don’t vote in career politicians and lawyers ( read my column about what our forefathers had to say about lawyers and their distaste) and lawmakers who put criminals back on the street the day after they committed a crime and politicians who can’t make a decision to help those not getting paid.
That’s my 2 cents along with telling President Trump to quit telling lies on how great the economy is and for someone to tell him that he best humbles himself—President Trump—I will tell you to tell the world what you have done after you did it and not before!
Let’s move on to Angels—did you know the word angel, angel’s, angels, and angels’ are mentioned in the Bible a total of 297 times according to the Strong’s Concordance.
The word ANGEL is found 98 times in the New Testament and 103 times in the Old Testament, the word ANGEL’S is found twice in the New Testament, the word ANGELS is found 81 times in the New Testament and 12 times in the Old Testament and the word ANGELS’ is found once in the Old Testament.
Interesting enough, the word ANGEL & ANGELS are used mostly in the book of Revelation. Jesus only mentions the word ANGEL in the book of Revelation in chapters 2 &3 while he mentions the ANGELS in Matthew, Mark and Luke and then twice in the 1st and 3rd book of Revelation.
Turn to Psalm 91:11 (NIV) For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
Folks, we have guardian angels who watch over us in our daily lives as shown in various scriptures such as 1 Kings 19:5, Daniel 6:22, Matthew 18:10, Luke 16:22 and Acts 27:23-24.
Angels are created by God as his messengers or ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation and will do God’s bidding.
We know that God created angels as shown in Colossians 1:16 where it says all things are created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, all things were created by him and for him.
We have established that angels serve believers but they also protect the little ones or children, proclaim the eternal gospel to those who live on the earth when the hour of judgement comes, and sent an angel in human appearance to rescue Peter and perform duties that God has instructed them to do.
Go to Hebrews 13:2 where it says Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. Have you encountered or thought you might have entertained an angel?
The Bible shows us that Abraham, Gideon and Manoah entertained angels without knowing it, so you or I may be next.
Note: Angels are NOT TO BE WORSHIPPED for Paul says in Colossians for false teachers began teaching that God could only be approached through various levels of angels and that people had to worship angels in order to reach God.
The Old Testament First Commandment makes it very clear that we shall have no other gods before me and as a dual witness look at Revelation 22:8-9 (NIV) , John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!”
On the flipside, not all angels do the will of God for we have demons who are fallen angels for we know there was a war in Heaven and Satan and his evil spirits were cast down to earth.
When one reads Mark 1: 23-27 shows us that demons knew Jesus, that Jesus could destroy demons, that Jesus has authority over all demons, that demons obey Jesus, and that demons can cause a person to become mute, deaf, blind or insane and that demon possession was very rampant during Jesus’s time on earth.
Speaking of demons, the leader is Satan—the author of lies and deceit who rebelled against God. Matthew, Mark and Luke give us the perfect example of how Satan tempts Jesus in the desert and how Jesus used scripture to combat both Satan and temptation.
Jesus is the perfect example on how we can combat temptation and by asking for the spiritual armor daily, he will give us what is needed. Temptation is not sin, but we sin when we give in to temptation and disobey God.
Before I close, I have a very interesting bit of Bible scripture to share—Jude 9 (NIV) But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” 1
Footnotes
- Jude 1:9 Jude is alluding to the Jewish Testament of Moses (approximately the first century a.d.).
Were you aware that Satan tried to get the body of Moses?
Why did this happen, well I have no idea but I have read several theories as to why, but Michael, the archangel, which signifies the chief or principal angelic figure acts as a guardian figure to make sure that Moses body was handled correctly.
Notice that Michael does not engage in personal insults with Satan for Michael shows that it is God and God only holds the ultimate authority over every dispute. Angels were not placed to usurp God’s authority but to rely on God’s power to rebuke and restrain Satan and his minions.
We are to do as the angels when confronted with the adversary and turn the matter over to God to deal with the matter.
I hope this column has helped you in the matter of angels and gives you insight on their function and service to God.
May God bless you in your endeavors and may you always Praise God from whom all blessing flow! ↩︎
